Worlds Smallest Travel Laser Mouse

Small laser mouse
If your Japanese isn’t quite up to scratch, what the people at Impress are trying to tell you is that this is (according to them) the worlds smallest laser mouse with an integrated retractable cord. Perfect for the road warrior, who also happens to be a gamer, as you adjust the sensitivity up to 200dpi. You’ll be fragging those noobs in CS:S from your Hilton suite. As long as your battery hasn’t exploded. For approx. $25 (¥2,980) you could buy a couple in case one breaks.

Lenovo Battery Recall

FIRE!!!!
Lenovo has thrown their hat in the ring as far as battery recalls are concerned, joining the other giants, Dell, Apple, Panasonic and Toshiba. If you have one of the following models, (T43, T43p, T60); R Series (R51e, R52, R60, R60e); and X Series (X60, X60s) purchased some time between February 2005 and September 2006 then head on over to Lenovo’s website where you can check your battery manually or download their spiffy little program which will do all the hard work for you.

All of a sudden I have Disco Inferno in my head.

Vulneraribilites in MS Product shocker

Office
Powerpoint, the cornerstone of mediocre presentations everywhere has a (just one?) hole in it that makes it vulnerable to a hack

“This issue can allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on a vulnerable computer,” Symantec said in an alert sent to customers. The flaw affects PowerPoint in Office 2000, Office XP and Office 2003 on Windows and Apple Computer’s Mac OS X, it said. Attacks appear to be aimed at specific targets, Symantec said.

The BBC reports that the infected presentation “purports to be 18 humorous slides about love between men and women.”, so there’s the ususal element of social engineering at work here, however “the virus was aimed at companies in Asia because Chinese characters are used in the subject line of the e-mail” - the email comes from a Gmail address.

So far, few people have been caught by this, but MS advises everyone to be cautious. Ultimately it looks like it may take a couple of weeks to patch the vulnerability, so lets me careful out there.

80 Cores in 5 years

Not a laserdisk
Intel is upping the stakes in the processor wars, pledging to have 80 core CPU’s in 5 years time. With dual-core machines currently all the rage and a quad-core release scheduled for a November release by Intel, a 20x increase in 5 years doesn’t necessarily seem out of the question. Now we wonder what AMD has up their sleeves and where this path will take us - 1000 core cpu’s? Its the megahertz race all over again. Read more here

T-Mobile Dash

T-Mobile are reportedly releasing their Dash (aka the HTC Excalibur) handset on October 16th. Why do you care when the beautiful Blackberry Pearl is already upon us? Well, a full QWERTY keyboard for one, WiFi for two and MS Office Mobile make it a very attractive package for someone who isn’t already sucked into the world of crackberry. No price yet, but check out more details here.
